Benjamin Barry is an advertising executive and ladies' man who, to win a big campaign, bets that he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Andie Anderson covers the "How To" beat for "Composure" magazine and is assigned to write an article on "How to Lose a Guy in 10 days." They meet in a bar shortly after the bet is made.

The film is directed by Donald Petrie and stars Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. It is based on a short cartoon book of the same name by Michele Alexander and Jeannie Long.PlotThe film tells the story of journalist Andie Anderson (Hudson), who works for Composure magazine as the "How to..." girl and is getting bored, wishing that she could write more political pieces. She soon finds herself writing an article called "How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days." Andie is told by her boss that she must date a man and do all the things that women tend to do wrong when they are in relationships in order to be granted more freedom in her writing.At the same time, advertising executive Benjamin Barry (McConaughey) tells his boss that he can make any woman fall in love with him in just ten days and can bring her as a date to the companys ball.

If he succeeds, he will get to be in charge of the advertising for the new diamond company account headed by his boss.As misfortune would have it, Andie and Ben meet that night and start their quests.
