Character The fictional character of Rambo (John J. Rambo according to First Blood) was born on July 6 1947 in Bowie, Arizona of Native American and German descent. He joined the United States Army on August 6 1964, shortly after leaving high school. Rambo was deployed to South Vietnam in September 1966. He returned to the U.S. in 1967 and began training in the Special Forces at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
