The Darjeeling Limited is the fifth film by director Wes Anderson, to be released on September 29, 2007, in the United States. It is at least partially set in India. It is written by Anderson, Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman.In June, 2007, the New York Film Festival announced that The Darjeeling Limited would open the annual festival in September of 2007. The film will also compete for the Golden Lion at the 2007 Venice Film Festival.An official trailer for the film was released in July 2007.

It features two songs by The Kinks, ("Strangers" and "This Time Tomorrow", both from the 1970 album Lola versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One), and a song by Satyajit Ray, ("Charu Theme" from the film Charulata).PlotThe story involves three estranged brothers (played by Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman) who take a train ride through India after the death of their father. The fictional long-distance train "Darjeeling Limited", apparently named after the short narrow-gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, provides the backdrop for the brothers trying to grow closer together.
